The Book of Job—Abridged

Reading the Book of Job can easily take 2 hours or more, and it can be a long two hours. I’ve found that by the time I’m finished, I can’t get my head around it all. There is just too much to take in at one sitting for the read to be enjoyable.

Early in the year I expected to be talking about this book of the Old Testament in Sunday School. I decided to try writing a 20 minute readers theater version. In a normal class, we’d have time for a reading of the abridged version and time for a discussion.

Although I’m no longer a Sunday School teacher, I finished the project and tried it out around a dinner table with family and friends. Happy with the result, I’m posting it here for anyone to use and enjoy. It works best with 7 readers—a narrator, Job, Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar, Elihu, and God.

I hope this shorter version makes the book more enjoyable and easier to understand.
